(Var; KORwest) this hardy climber is by far one of the nicest to come along. It has a warm, rich apricot-orange color and a lovely perfume. It blooms the first season on both new and old wood. It is the only rose in this color class that will survive the temperature extremes of the colder parts of the U.S.A. This one takes the cold and comes back for more. Glossy, disease resistant foliage. Flower size: 4-5". Fragrance: Strong, spicy. Hybridizer: Kordes, 1970.

I planted my first Westerland two years ago. I have ordered a second one since, because I absolutely love this rose.
As with all plants from Edmund Roses I got so far, my plant arrived in good shape and grew on well. The new potted version is a bit smaller than the barerooted ones, but that makes it easier to plant.
I have the rose on a partially shady spot, where it grows well. The disease resistance is superb: Despite very humid summer weather there was no spot of disease anywhere. The flowers are beautiful and the fragance is positively addictive. The rose flowers all summer into late fall.
One caution for cold winter areas: While the canes survive a mild winter easily without protection, when temperatures dip into the negative, mulch is a must.
